identfing a lsd??

hi lads. iv found a 4.10 diff and the fella said it had a limo lsd put into it.. but iv heard from mates he a chancer and it could be just welded so im wondering is there any way of tellin which it is, a proper lsd or welded???, without removeing the cover and takin a look??? many thanks

you'l need a trolly jack and a set of hands. jack car up, turn rear wheel. If both wheels spin at same time, welded. it is only the tires that 'give' i.e. both wheels go 1:1

well its outa the car now so cant do that.. but ther should be a bit of free play on the two places where the half shafts go on is it??? sorry im a bit slow today haha

If its off the car can't you just turn it upright and open 'er up and have a look-see?

Yes, there's a bit of play / lash, but as it's off the car and you're unsure why not whip the cover off to be sure?

ya i might aswell only the fella im buying it off wouldnt like that to much lol.. welded diffs are a disater so reli dont wanna get caught out. thanks lads

If it's not warranted as being a proper slipper and he won't let you take the cover off, well.....

Surely you can turn the side bits that the drifshafts bolt onto? Won't that work?

i would imagine the difference in price between an lsd and a welded diff to be considerable. if he wont let you remove the rear cover plate to check id walk away.

ya its 4.10 and ment to have a good slipper. but dont worry ifs its a lsd il bargain him down
