i need to change the cambelt onmy 325i touring.

would i be stupid to get a non bmw tensioner and belt?

would i be even more stupid if i didnt change the tensioner at all?

you could just get a decent non bmw replacement part, if your'e not changing the tensioner then yeah you would be stupid

When i did mine i got a INA kit from GSF, INA tensioners are used on french turds but they have 100K change intervals these days, the belt in the box was a DAYCO which was the same as came off the car.

Tensioner is a must if you don't know when it was last done.

Also, the tensioner spring rests against the waterpump so it is a perfect time to change that too. If you have to change the pump later then doing it without removeing the cam belt again is very tricky because of the spring tension... Cam belts hate being re-tensioned.
