I have a 91 316i the fuel gauge seems to have a mind of its own i know i roughly have half a tank but today it dropped to quater and then went to just over half i was on level ground.
i have a feeling i have a loose connection on the back of the gauge( i have to pull the instrument cluster out anyway this wk end to fix the light behind the speedo and fuel gauge which needs a thump to make it come on and also put in the light for the front fogs.
if its not the gauge is the sender easy to reach to check the connections
any help appreciated

Sender is easy to get at - lift the rear seat base and there it is !
