I own a 1990 318i, 200k km (125k miles) It has always been serviced by Bmw and i have complete history . The problem is when accelerating and at around 4750-5000rpm the engine seems to have a difficulty to pull further, it also happens when doing 160km/h (100mph) then the engine will spin at around 4800rpm and won't go further.
The other problem is a fuel smell inside the car when it has been used a couple of hours ago. When I start it and switch the ventilator on I get a quite strong fuel smell in the cabin. This stop when riding for 5min.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
max

The fuel smell could be because the hose below the rear if the intake manifold may be leaking.

Theres a piece of flexible fuel hose about 1 1/2 inces long in the middle of the manifold on the back end of the fuel rail.
It's quite hard to check with it still on the car, this hardens and splits.
The only way to tell for sure is to remove it and check it.
Once you've got it out you might as well repace it anyway, there only a few pence and not worth getting a piece of pipe from BMW, any fuel line will do.
If that doesn't cure the rev limit problem you should check the tappets.

Failing to rev above 5000 is a common fault on the 318i.
Usual culprit is a worn camshaft. Take off the rocker cover & check the condition of the cam lobes. It'll be fairly obvious if it is knackered.

Max i know my eye are going but could you make those pic's a bit bigger
You dont actually have a pic of the fuel hose that leaks there
In that top pic the pipe that is next to the throttle cable is your fuel line.
If you follow that up into the manifold it chances to a metal pipe and then back to a rubber hose, It's that small piece of hose that leaks.

Ok now i see what you mean, sorry for the huge pics, is there a way to make them appear smaller or do i just have to shoot them in a smaller resolution?
