hi all just bought another e30 325i convertible nice enough and cheap enough for australia has the electric auto gearbox and only want to move in third gear ecu has been changed anyone out there with any good advice before i start ripping out hair thanks :mad:

Only advice I can ask offer on these, is to make sure the pins in the electrical connector to the gearbox are all nice and shiney, and that fuse 9 is intact.
Is the fluid level OK? (checked while running), and does it smell OK?

give the gearbox an serivce and check all connections. if that fails then there places that will recon your box from about £80 have look on gumtree

thanks guys i will check all conectors fuses and do a fluid change and change the filter as soon as i can its as good a place to start as any fingers crossed in the meantime if anyone has any other imput it would greatly be apriciated thanks 8)

there's another zoner bought a car with this problem his box was the switchable auto it turned out to be the switch on the center console was at fault. not saying yours is the same but it could be worth a look if yours is the switchable box

yes it is the switchable auto i will have a look at the switch where can i buy a new one cause they woulndt be available in australia this little gem is a uk import
