I'm trying fit a replacement interior mirror, but can't get the catches to compress enough for it to fit. It's going to be a big hammer tomorrow!
Does anyone know how to doing this?
Thanks
Mick

I spent about 2 hours trying to do this, lots of bashing and swearing...it went in eventually, iirc I managed to tilt it so one side was clipped in, and I used a flatblade to lever the other side in.

How about removing the mirror. Is it just a case of pulling it out?

Pull it down angled towards the seats, it should just pop out.

If its the same as the e36 - you put it on at about 45 degrees and turn it and it clips itself on - I always thought about a hammer etc - but this is bmw. . .we are talking about - dont think they would design something to be fitted by hammer

they definetly click into the roof panel, they do not twist on like the e36...dtmpower wrote:If its the same as the e36 - you put it on at about 45 degrees and turn it and it clips itself on - I always thought about a hammer etc - but this is bmw. . .we are talking about - dont think they would design something to be fitted by hammer
The easist way i have found to attach the mirror, is to offer the mirror up at an angle, clip in the passenger side spring, then using a large screwdriver (don't slip you'll make hell of a mess of your fingers and rooflining...) press in the drivers side spring whilst pushing the mirror assembly up into the roof. Carefully wiggle out the trapped screwdriver and Robert's your mothers brother.

just push...its really not that hard.....it needs a fair bit of force to get it to clip in...getting my map light mirror out of my parts car i managed to pull the actual bit that is riveted into the body out and was a bit confused as to how it went back in!
