what tools do i need to change the gearbox oil on my e30.

you need a service kit which contains new filters and seals etc you should be able to do it with a normal tool kit no special tools needed .

it looks like a strange internal nut to undo it??

if it is a a manual then there is no service kit just the large square key to undo the drain plug ...but undo the top plug first as you will look silly if after draining it you find the filler seized and cant put any oil back in...also run it first to get the oil hot so it comes out easier and if its a cold day stand the oil bottles in hot water to make it easier to squeeze it into the filler ...do it on level ground ie jack it up on all 4 corners and fill it untill it starts to come back out of the filler
