did min a few weeks back. there is a thread in e30 chat.
any way here goes. first open the hood. then take off the rear interior side panels. disconnect speakers and take the whole panel off as it makes job alot easier. then in the hood compartment disconnect any wires cables connected to the hood itself. then you will find 6 bolts. three on each side. two on the horizontal plane and one on the vertical. undo these with one of those flexi-socket things as they can be hard to get to.
you will need to move the hood up and down in different positions to get to each bolt, so get someone to hold it for you. VITAL BIT- each bolt has a number of washers attached. count how many are on each bolt as thats how they got to go back. watch out for the washers on the vertical bolts because they fall off as you loosen the bolt. then once all the bolts are out just lift out the hood.
Then CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. even clean each washer as i did. its worth it.
then just reverse the process remembering to put the same amount of washers on each bolt as you took off.
i had to remove my ne hood three times as i let the washers drop and did not know how many went where. therefore the new hood did not sit right and would not close. took a while to get it right.
if the new roof you have has new cloth it will be very tight and hard to close but dont worry, it loosens up.
one more thing. when the hood is off change any rubber over from old to new hood if need be.
