what engine can i put in an 318is without changing too much!

The 318iS ECU will only run a 318iS
Any other engine will involve wiring / mechanical work.
Why not just stick with the 318iS engine ???

I'm thinking of doing the same... either dropping an M30 in or building a 2.7 M20...
Lots of work I think. Complete wiring loom, ECU, all the ancilliaries, exhaust, suspension, etc.
Could speak to JimBob, as he's done this on his 318iS - He made a 327 out of it after it went bang...
