Just did a minor service on my new 320i

250000km's 1989 model.

Since I got it about a month ago I've been meaning to get under the hood and give it a working over. Finally this weekend got around to starting the process...

Changed the oil and filter.
Also the fuel filter and got a nice whack of petrol dribbling onto my face :)
Changed plugs (numbers 3 and 4 not fitting leads properly, housing in connector lead mangled, must replace in near future) All look good comming out, no cause for concern.

Air box was unclipped (not sure for how long I've been driving around with the airbox bottom hanging off!) Replaced filter and closed up box properly.

Checked out breaks. Fronts fine, but rears need replacing along with disc :(

Also reset inspection light with the wire bridge trick :)

Seems to be going along a bit smoother now. Good stuff.
Next things to tackle.- Timing belt was last replaced in 1996 according to the reciepts that came with car, so thats gotta happen soon.
Connector hose btwn air intake and head starting to show signs of cracking.
Odd rattle from front right when driving over cobblestones, sounds like two plates tapping together.. All seems connected properly, but could be anything.
Front right headlight main beam reflector tarnished, so that'll need replacing.

Otherwise pretty sound all round.
Any other things you fine peeps can suggest I'm all ears...

:D

If you really want to go to town you could change gearbox and diff oil.
The rattle you mention sounds like the anti roll bar link

Yeah, thats next on the agenda, though it's a pain in the rear type job isn't it? Maybe get the mechanic I know to do it... Don't fancy spending my day squirting oil into the gearbox...

Thanks for the heads up on the anti-roll bar. I'll see if I can track down that elsuive rattle... Doesn't every car have one? :P
