If the Red & White are the cables from the Aerial you are missing a control relay that has to be attached to 12V plus earth and also attached to the Head unit and sometimes ignition. The head unit will have a cable that is usually blue that tells the relay the unit is on. The relay then powers the aerial up. Hope this helps.

when i took the aerial out of my old shell the red and white wire went directly to the head unit,no relay, and the aerial is directly earthed to the car body,im stumped!

Red is live feed, attach it to the feed for the head.
and the white you connect to the aerial trip from the head. (usually blue)
The earth should be below the aerial motor to the bolt on the wheel arch.

how do i do that? i need to power the signal wire too? the blue wire in the back of my head unit pumps out 12v when the radio is on,do's a signal wire normally push 12v out? that wuld mean if i connect the red to the power and the white to the blue signal wire boh wires would have 12v? sound right?
