elcetric roof problems...

hi ive got a 318i cabrio with an electric roof.all the motors work and ive replaced the switch and yet the hood still doesnt seem to work.however if i short the connection the roof will go up and down as normal...can anyone help or does anyone know of anyone else whos had this problem as its really baffling me...any advice would be great...
