Why not use a K&N power blanket .... ?
Don't actually know if they are any good or not but they seem to sell them together over here.

Got exactly the same problem mate , just bought myself some 5" Al extrusion from the plumbing dept in B&Q (it's used for air vents apparently) and I'm going to have a bash at fabricating my own cold air system, I'll let you know if it works...:?

The B and Q air hose i have tried. The throttle response was ace. at low speeds everything was fine but i thought at higher speeds that it went a bit flat, possibly a bit lean. I also left the other panel heat shield that i made out of a sheet of aluminium in.

I have since found a couple of 10" aluminium bottles and hacked they about a bit and made quite good shield, with blow off valves so there is minimal ram effect, so hopefully air/fuel mixture stays the same.

Fitted the "B&Q cold air system", does seem to help though I can't comment about the problem Jezza mentioned ('cause my AFM is gubbed and she's running lean anyway, recon AFM on it's way...). I have pictures, if I could work out how to upload 'em...? Anyway, once the new AFM is fitted I'll get her back on the rolling road and confirm if my Ԛ£10 was a good investment!
