Which is it guys, this is supposed to be an eta engine but I was pretty sure that the eta heads had less cam bearings.

Adam,

I believe the ETA head has all 7 journals, but the Cam only has 5.

If you want to put an i cam in an ETA head, you need to drill the oil ways into the 2 unused bearing journals.

Can you see if the camshaft just passes through 2 of the journals without actually having a bearing surface on the camshaft ?

Ian.

CHeers fellas thats a relief, it looks like the actual cam has less bearings. I guess they must use the same casting for the heads on "e" and "i" engines.

It would probably be a good idea to use the eta head with an "i" cam in because it should have had an easier life no? Are the valves the same on "e" and "i" heads?

Eta head is 320 port sized Adam, not 100% on the valve dims, check ETK for those dude.

In that case I thnk we'll stick with the "i" head. I noticed the inlet manifold was considerably narrower.

The iS is now ready for the new lump to be dropped in. Engine, gearbox, prop and all iS ancilliaries have now been removed. Started taking the eta engine apart just as it was getting dark. The large crank nut pretty much fell off so I think the garage where Jim got the engine might have loosened it for us which was a bonus.

That's what I thought, they're normally stained brown like the rest of the valvetrain. Bonus!!

Hi mate,
as far as I am aware the "Eta" had 4 bearings and the "I" has seven.
I think the "Super eta" used an I head.
