Oil Change: Any Recommendations?

My 89' 325 Sport is need of a service, and of course, at the heart of one of these is the oil change.

Not having owned a E30 M20 before, I was wondering which is the best sort of oil to use in my engine.

The facts first:

- I have no knowledge of what oil is in there at the moment (since I only recently acquired the car)

- The car has covered 116K miles

- I do ALOT of motorway driving..nearly 90% of my mileage is motorway based

So, if anybody has any good suggestions then please do let me know!

Mineral vs Semi-Synth vs Synthetic.....etc....etc....etc.

Also, which brands are the best? And what about the codes?
