Does anybody have any ideas how I can go about reading the fault codes from my 318is? I have read a bit about obtaining codes by depressing/releasing the accelerator 5 times in quick succession after turning the ignition on, but have a feeling this may only apply to M20-engined E30s, or US versions. I've had no luck trying this so far at least.
My local Bosch specialist quoted me 1 hours labour to run through all the diagnostic stuff, but that's Ԛ£46 I could do with keeping for fixing whatever it is causing my rough idle.
Any suggestions?
Cheers,
Neil

If the 5 presses of the accelerator realy works you may not be able to do it if your Throttle Position Switch is defective, This is also a source of problems that can cause rough idle.

The throttle pressing trick is for US versions(of the M20 and M50, at least).
