just went to adjust the allen screw on the afm (marked it first so i could put it back) and noticed it is wound all the way in SHOULD IT BE LIKE THIS.i had it tuned at a local garage a few weeks ago and he told me it was underfueling so he'd adjusted the mixture. 2 days later i noticed the fuel line was split and leaking pretty badly so i fixed this, now i think its over-fueling and i'm wondering if trying to re-adjust the afm will sort it

Best leave it alone and take it back to the garage. Explain to them that you found a split fuel pipe (they should really have spotted it anyway) and can they re-check and adjust it.

Best not to fiddle with the AFM unless you have the right equpment.
