as above really. when you start to chuck it about under heavy cornering it runs out of fuel then fires back up when you're level. it's been doing it mildly for a while but has got progressively worse. any ideas what it is? theres 3/4's of a tank of fuel in it's so not low on fuel.

I don't know what to suggest really, I'm guessing there is
a) something up with the injectors (clogged with crap)
b ) a loss of pressure in the fuel line
c) fuel pump is on it's way out
you can buy injector cleaner from halfords in Ԛ£1 bottles chuck in a bottle when you go to fill up
possibly a fuel line has perished and so split and is leaking slightly
or the pump may need replacing or cleaning
but then again I could be completely wrong, these are just suggestions you could always try the injector cleaner see if it helps. I wouldnt know where to look if a line has split, petrol tends to evaporate so you cant really tell. I doubt it is this to be honest. and fuel pump, god knows try finding a replacement?

could it be possible for the pick up pipe in the tank to have moved somehow.
The pump is obviously fine if it delivers plently of fuel in a straight line, so it has to be something like dodgy wiring to the pump, check the area around the fuel filter in case that is moving about and kinking the rubber hose. Again just guesses. Process of elimination I guess.
Don't really know what could cause fuel starvation up near the engine/ fuel rail end of things. Just follow the fuel lines from the tank & filter and check all seems in order

just had a belated attack of wisdom..
can you be sure it is fuel starvation and not something electrical. Best check over ignition system and leads etc to make sure nothing lose and therefore breaking circuit when moving under cornering forces, check all main wiring under bonnet, upto fuse box & relays, also check the gizmos stashed up above your glovebox. Done any wiring in the car lately like car stereo and pehaps pulled on a loom or summit..?
Again just tips, but i'm flying blind really mate

i really wouldnt put anythin like that in your engine, ive heard some bad stories about what can happen to your engine, and plus they never make any difference anyway, well not to my experienceBob_S wrote:you can buy injector cleaner from halfords in Ԛ£1 bottles chuck in a bottle when you go to fill up

I previously had a 1996 1.25 16v fiesta with around 65000 on the clock at the time. It had been run on tesco fuel regularly as it's the closest station, I thought I would try some injector cleaner to help it as it sometimes took a second or two to react to throttle response, it worked perfect after a couple of uses, I would not be using it constant thought because i heard it creates bore wash etcjamesroools wrote:i really wouldnt put anythin like that in your engine, ive heard some bad stories about what can happen to your engine, and plus they never make any difference anyway, well not to my experienceBob_S wrote:you can buy injector cleaner from halfords in Ԛ£1 bottles chuck in a bottle when you go to fill up

This happened to me on track at Rockingham. It was the fuel pump that needed replacing. They usually get noisy before they go - a constant high pitched wine from around the offside rear wheel - worse when sitting in traffic.

it has been noisy for a while now. but i didn't want to spend money on changing it unless i could confirm it was that causing it.
