I think my diff is starting to get noisy and was wondering if anyone has fixed this problem with a diff oil service. As far as I'm aware the diff oil has never been changed, The car has now coverd 98,000 miles. I notice the noise at all times, straight lines as well as going round bends at all speeds.

Do I simply change the diff oil with oil that BMW recommends and try and see if that helps or is there something more modern that I can try (safely) to see if that helps quieten it down.

Would dirty oil cause my diff to be noisy

Many thanks

Dal

you could do an oil change fella, which may take a slight edge off it, but odds are you are gonna have to replace bearings in diff to get rid completely.

Mine has been noisy for ages, gonna get it sorted soon, but i'm lucky, my old man is a mechanic, only bad bit is I have to drive 200 miles to see him/get my car fixed!
