My car confuses me. If you look at the following:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=18&fg=10

This shows the cat/lambda probe for my chassis number. I don't have a lambda probe however, there is a round plug under the battery which i believe is for this purpose.
So, is the box on my front pipe a silencer or a cat? Would I really have a cat and no lambda probe? Never seen that before? I'm considering having a striaght through section made for this and I'm working out my options.
Is it a good idea to retro fit a lambda probe for part load fuel economy?
finally, if the plug under the battery is for the lambda probe, whats the two pin connector underneath the throttle sock for?
so confusing!

The site you looked at is American, and they have cats and lambda sensors.
The lambda sensor socket is present on all post facelift E30s, but I doubt if yours has ever been used, especially if it is fitted with a blanking plug Your front box is probably a silencer, and, IIRC, the main chip in your ECU is not suitable for use with a lambda sensor.
