Hi,

The sunroof runners seem to be bonded to the sunroof tray with some kind of sticky grey substance, to keep it watertight.

Does anybody know what this is called, and where it can be bought from? Any other sealant that can be used?

Thanks,

Paul

Watching this with interest Paul.

Did you manage to save yours wwhen you removed them or did you get new runners?

I'm pretty sure i'm gonna mangle No 8 in the diagram above while trying to remove it. Had it in my mind to order new ones of 7, 8 & 9, but i'd rather save what I can.

Paul,

Where in West Kent are you ?

When I replaced my roof (yes, the whole roof 8O ), I had to hunt down something suitable, and have a load left over.

The stuff I used was made by 3M. It's strips of non setting caulking that can be stretched and stuck under the runners before you fit them in the roof. It's the nearest I could find to the original stuff, and I've not had any leaks.

Cheers,

Ian.

You shouldn't have any trouble removing any of these from the goo - unless someone has been there before, and replaced the goo with 'Gripfill' or similar!

rab-doo - i see your having problems removing it in your other thread. The runners seem well stuck down, but just slide a wall paper scraper under them and ease them off, they will give eventually. As for the cables its like Brian said, remove the motor and then pull the cables out from the top of the car (pulling on the black plastic sliding mechanism in the roof).

Ian - Thanks for the offer, im in sevenoaks, near J5 of the M25. I will send you a pm now :) .

Thanks.

i'll be needing this stuff also. The cables on mine are out of the tray and need to go back in but i just can't see how they come apart from the runner?! As they won't fit back into the tray unless they are split :?

Nothing needs to be split to get them back in, as long as the stainless parts are off.
