I'm part way through prepping a 320 to race in the Miltek SELOC series. I've put the car through a couple of track days and have noticed it's well down on straight line speed in comparison to other E30 320's.
At times today the car felt like it wasn't getting enough fuel, this was especially noticeable when over 4000 rpm. Once the car had been run for 10 hard minutes the acceleration was incredibly dull and felt like there was almost nothing there at all.
I've driven a friends E30 320 and it has much better acceleration than mine.
I'm going to check the dist cap and rotor arm.
Does this sounds like the symptoms of a fuel pump on the way out? Or something more serious??
Any ideas on what to check next?

Sounds like a distributor cap/rotor arm to me. Certainly change these before looking deeper.

Or fuel filter? Nice and easy and cheap to change, and can cause fuel starvation especially at higher revs when more fuel is needed.

Had a look at the dizzy and rotor arm, not fantastic but ok.
Fuel filter next.

After reading another thread re not revving past 5k, tried mine, will rev to limiter out of gear but only to around 5k when a gear is engaged?????

Probably due to the fact the engine is under load, sounds like definite fuel starvation, let us know after changing the fuel filter as it made quite a difference recently when I changed the fuel filter on my touring, the one I took off had Made in W.Germany written on it, so must have been pretty old!
