It sounds like your backlight has gone. This is easily fixable, but a pain to get to. I'll do a quick search...

Eh, that thread's for the bulb that lights up the buttons when the sidelights are on, not the light bar!

yes, and as I was about to edit my post above to include the instructions - my damn broadband crapped out :(

That thread helps you get the OBC out, once its out you just remove the lightbar by grabbing the white plastic rib saying "ziehen, pull" with some long nosed pliers and pulling it out (It's on the top right hand side of the OBC as you look at it from the front, just behind the screen). Then you either replace the blown bulb (soldering but cheap) or put in a new one from the dealer which is about £24. Your call.

I had use these bulbs from Maplin

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?Mod ... 4&doy=22m7

you will have to use two 6 volts (the orginals ore 5 volts). then just solder them in.

Total cost £1.98

Also are you aware the light switch is a dimmer switch as well.which dims thde OBC and the instrument panel

I was fooled by it

More suitable bulbs are these: Much easier to use the correct bulbs! More even distribution of light and are available from www.cpc.co.uk , part no. SC00337.
£2-35 for a packet of five, and a service life of 20,000 hours, which should be long enough for most of us. (about half a million miles!)
