Does anyone know what the point of it is?
Seems like a tinsy little flywheel for the back of the gearbox or something?
Cheers!

I think its some kind of balancer? type thing for the prop?
I found it just made it more awkward to get to the bolts!
So i didnt fit it

it's a vibration damper, the outer ring is suspended from the inner on rubber mounts and does indeed serve as a damper in the same way as front crank sprockets do
neither of my 325s have had one fitted but I've seen a few that have, cant say I've ever noticed a difference between the have and have nots
Could be a case for a weeeeeee bit maybe folks

mine has it fitted, it was a bit tricky to replace the guibo, but bmw must have found it necessary to fit it in the first place...

At a guess it would make the rear gearbox bearing last a bit longer
