Brake light on computer

im having some problems. my brake light light on my computer keeps coming on, i've had the brakes checked and the brake lights work. does anyone know why it keeps coming on?

This can be due to dodgy connections in the rear cluster bulb holder, it may be worth taking it out for a clean with a wire brush or something?

yup. it's on the check computer right?
the computer warning trips off even if there's a break in the brake light circuit for only a split second - or if the contacts are damp first thing in the morning. likely to be a bad contact where the bulb screws into the light cluster - clean the contact areas with an abrasive. you may need to give them quite a good clean to stop the warning coming on but it will work!

Some cheap bulbs can be a bit dubious in their wattage rating as well. If you have a couple of these fitted, the total current taken by them might be sufficiently different from what the module expects to trip it occasionaly.

The brake light switch is also an old favourite for this.
Although the brake lights work fine, the switch can cause this exact same problem. It's common on E36's as they use the same switch.

If it aint broke - Modify it...
