How much would people reckon on budgeting to have their car de-rusted and resprayed?
Guess the options are to do the derusting myself which will require some welding, or splash the cash and get the body restored.
Whadda people think?
Cheers!

This is probably on a few peoples wish lists.
From personal experience diggin around and asking a few in the trade:-
Basically rusty bits/panels are probably best replaced than repaired if your looking for long term. Also the work involved replacing panels can actually be less labour intensive than a repair, just ensure that the bodyshop uses good items and fits them nice and straight. Some people on here have experienced the opposite. The most common bits are arches (rears inner and outer mostly), rear panel, sills, n/s bootlid and front valance.
Any mtech 2 kitted cars, even the better ones tend to hide some rust in these place, Zone posts are proving this all too common and unavoidable.
I don't think the panels are too expensive www.sel-imperial.co.uk sell rear arches for around Ԛ£18 for example.
What bits are rusting?
Once your rust is out, prepping is another labour intensive task proir to 'time for the repaint'. Best remove any bits that will obviously be a problem. Andy paintshop will give you a price including or excluding prepping, however, I was advised to ask them first before doing anything as their own masking up sorts most out.
I have recently been to a local BMW dealer and got quoted Ԛ£1600 incl. VAT for a full respray with a 3yr warranty using new rubber seals etc which he said he could consume in the job. The quote was heavily discounted and also considered myself to do most of the prepping, however he had no problem paying me a visit to tell what to do and what not to do for the prepping. I've been quoted less for a repaint but i've also seen how good their work is and to be honest i was expecting at least double that figure from a dealer, using BMW paints and ovens.
As for the budget, I reckon you should be able to get any new panels supplied and fitted for around Ԛ£400 max, when added to the dealer paintjob Ԛ£2k is a pretty good price to get your pride and joy like 'off the production line' again.
My car is pretty good now but i've still had quotes of Ԛ£500+ just for the rear arches replacing which are bubbling slightly including paint . When you look at that quote then Ԛ£2k dosen't sound too bad, considering new paint allround.
Can people post up any quote for panel replacing, both panel price and labour to fit. Also any prices for repaints. Any pitfalls form experience would be good too.

Mmmm, it's mostly the rear arches causing props with some sill rust rust to sort which is fairly easy as mine aren't body coloured.
Might have to invest in a pair of arches and then get my local body shop to spray them up

I think bodyshops get upset if they see rust. The guys over here I was going to take my car to basically won't tidy up rust as they don't want to be responsible for it.

Given the care and attention and effort you have put into the engine, brakes and wheels on your car...
I think you should get a full respray done-cos you'll be annoyed if its the paintwork that lets the car down

There is that, although the idea of driving a fast shed kind of appeals
It's not at the top of my list of things to sort, but it's definately weighing on my mind.
Thing is, if I had it resprayed, would I keep it brown, or go black instead? This is the first non-black 2door car I've ever owned. Hmmmmmmm.
