Hi Everyone, good morning, i am fairly new here & have been floating around for a couple of weeks following the invaluable advice/writeups on the E30Zone, to help try and solve the running problems with my 320i M3 replica on a 1985 plate - 120000 miles, and think this forum is AMAZING, there is no other words for it, the info i have found on here is top notch, & made fault finding & repair very easy & straight forward. thanks to all the Zone members u  , but now i think it's time i need some advice on what to do next, coz i dont want to spend time and money where it is not needed! + it's doin my head in now. So here i go:.

When cold my e30 will idle @ 1800rpm, when @ running temp it will idle at 1400rpm but 50% of the time it will hunt between 900-1400rpm.

when the engine is at running temp, if i remove the oil filler cap & let the engine struggle and the idle drop low, then replace the oil filler cap the idle settles @ 750-800rpm (purrs like a kitten)until i touch the throttle then it will rise straight back up to 1400rpm or hunt. SO ANNOYING :cursin:

If i try adjust the idle screw on the back of the inlet manifold it makes no difference at all until screw is turned anti clockwise 6 + times or so then starts hunting real bad, idle adjustment screw is screwed all the way in (was like this when i got car)

Im also getting very bad fuel consumtion, 50 miles to Ԛ£10 if im lucky. Thats just to keep it moving not hammering it... and its slow going up the rev range, when driving it takes ages to get anywhere unless in 2nd gear to 60 - 70 mph then drop into 3rd and it takes me all the way but still not as quick as it should, 4th & 5th gear are virtually non existent, slightest incline crusing @ 80mph in 4th or 5th and it slows down to 65-70mph, unless i floor it (then get 10 miles to a gallon), seems like it has to be @ 4500-5000rpm + in a low gear to even move, has no power below 4500rpm really, my last e30 316i was quicker......

Now a list of what i have done to try and solve these problems so far:.... (PHOTOS BELOW)

New clutch slave cylinder (old 1 was leaking)
Flushed, drianed, refilled water system (used quality antifreeze)
New thermostat
Flushed, drained, refilled oil + filter change (used gtx magnetec)
New oil filter
New fuel filter
Replaced all small bore vacume hoses and a couple of bigger split hoses
Removed/cleaned & replaced air flow meter
Removed/stripped/cleaned & rebuilt what i think is the idle vacume switch?? (marked in picture) (think i saw a write up on here about it so i done it)
Removed/stripped/cleaned & rebuilt throttle body, it was caked in carbon, looks like new now (also makes a smoother drive)

Even though i have done all on the list above i am still having all these problems, i really dont know what to try next, but this is what i had in mind...

Adjust tappets (i've seen the article on the zone & it looks pretty straight forward so i think im gonna give it a shot.)

Custom air filter/intake (just got to make bracket to hang the AFM

Im in the middle of stripping the OBC out of a 320i 4 door i have to fit im my M3 replica, but it's taking bloddy ages. (i also have lots of parts for spares just ask.)

But if anyone has any suggestions or maybee able to shed some light on these troubles im having with my e30, i would be forever greatfull, im so frustrated with it now, feels like i spend more time under the bonnet than in the drivers seat, (where i should be!) (PICTURES BELOW)

Hi-nice looking car!

seems like you have tried many of the things I could have suggested..just a couple spring to mind

1-Your car is fitted with a cold start injector-is it on all the time? (may be faulty injector or more likely faulty tempsensor for the ECU)

2-Does the ECU have a non standard chip in it? try unplugging the ECU and then reattaching it and let the car idle for 10 mins (helps the ECU 'relearn' the settings)

3-are the crank senesors clean and functioning correctly?

hi I unplugged the ecu while i was cleaning the throttle body, so it never made any difference...

I havent opened the ecu to check for an aftermarket chip but it doesnt look like it has ever been open!.

where is the cold start injector? how do i test to see if it is on all the time? is doing the injectors a big job(should i upgrade them if i end up replacing them)where would i find them ecu temp sensor & test. sorry if i ask too many questions but my Haynes manual isnt very clear

OHand if i have the engine running @ normal temp and unplug the connector on the idle screw assembley (mounted on the back of the manifold), it makes no difference whatsoever (but should it????)

exhaust is custom longlife, but id think i should have opted for the magnex (but the extra cost put me off.
