Guys,

Is there any way of retro fitting my old 1991 2dr rear lights onto my '89 convertible?

On looking at the wiring they are complete different. The current lights have a rectangular block on the end of the cluster for power but the later model is power via the middle of the lens.

Is there any way of fitting the later lights?

Cheers,

Daryl

Yeah that's the bit that's massively different, the wiring loom must be the same so I can only assume it's a case of cutting the existing plug off and chopping in the later plug in?

Don't do it. Stick with the correct ones for that year.

You can replace panels ect but it's going to cost a fooking fortune mate. :(

They are a physically different shape regardless of the wiring. You need to change the rear body panel for the lamp units to fit in. That means cutting, welding and a rear end respray including the quarter panels.

Ah Dave my little chocolate Teapot. Don't be so hard on yourself. You'll make a great draft excluder one day once you've been n a course.

Old_skool, thanks bud, didn't realise it was a body change. Chuddies.

Oh well, they'll be up on the for sale section before long then. Thanks lads.

It has been done on mine

Causes a heap of trouble to do , alot of rewiring and modding to fit it. For the amount of work it takes I don't think it really worth it.

The rewiring is a drop in the ocean compared to the bodywork involved. The rewiring takes half an hour, the bodywork (to get it right) means replacement rear quarter panels and a new rear panel. Unless you like lots of filler of course.

as has been said it can be done but the work involved is new rear panel and quarter panel. The lights are a different size. I have done it before by cutting the parts from a scrap car and welding them on. Unless you can do the body work yourself the cost would be very high as the labour in hours is quite high. The wiring is minor by comparison.
