Hi guys
I just wanted to know if there would be any fitting issues when changing a late engine to an early one - mounted on a late autobox.
Thanks

The sensors on the early lumps are located on the bellhousing for the gearbox, as yours is a late model box it won't have these. The later engines replaced those 2 sensors with a single pulse sensor that picks up of a toothed pulley on the front of the crank, the early lump will have the pulley.. but not the teeth. so yes you will need to change it over to the later one. Have fun getting it off!
Sorry for repeating on you guys but it didn't read very clearly, just clarifying.. (and postwhoring

So in other words just replace a late lump with a late lump if you want the the job done quickly.
If you've got loads of time on your hands and dont value your time then fit the early lump.

NOt my time - it'll be the time of whoever gets it to fit!
Also, there are much more early lumps for sale then late ones!

Yep - The convertible!
The 2.7 blew up on me! - Overheated, sounded like a bag of spanners, and died!
Havent got the money for another rebuild so will do it slowly in my own garage!
It was fun while it lasted!

It blew up because he used a cheapo head gasket which is a lesson for everyone.
After that caning it from cold didnt help either.
Then to make things worse Mr Q doesnt look at the speedo/rpm's let alone temp guage whilst driving so it over heated and kept over heating while driving.
Infact it go so hot that the paint melted off the block! The oil smelt like nothing ive smelt before and the plugs looked a bit funny afterwards.
Everyone should learn from this!

The engine always rattled at 4k and you know this!
The mapping was never made it right and you know this!
The head gasket supplied by GSF is the SAME as BMW except the BMW stamp!
Car suddenly started chucking out white/blue smoke whilst doing 90mph!
You do not expect this to happen on a 3k rebuild & map!

car also happened to be in the red temp zone and the needle couldnt go any further when you stopped.
Never heard any strange noises before.
Dude, If i had a 3k engine built I would always look at the temp gauge.
Its soley your fault for getting the engine so hot that the whole thing nearly melts.
Its easy to blame the garages but this time I think someone blew the gasket himself and then overheated it big style.
I dunno........some people

Sal, because they are your friends, doesnt make them right all the time!
And how do you know any of this, were you in the car hiding somewhere?
No!
As i had a 3k engine rebuild, you do not expect to keep an eye on the temp gauge!
You said yourself that it was blowing hot and cold air out after it had the throttle body done!
And dont deny the rattle noises which you convinced me was 'PINKING!@

Bexleys are people i deal with, they are not my "friends".
Point is this:
You cooked the engine due to your own negligence and you didnt keep an eye on the temp guage.
If you have a rebuild done you should be looking more at the temp guage to make sure things dont go wrong.
I didnt "convince" you the rattling noise was pinking.......it was pinking! Infact it was you yourself who said it was pinking first and I agreed.
If you really feel that the engine had a problem and it melted not because you overheated it but because of some other external force then take it up with them and ask them to sort it out. Dig your heels in hard, get an engineer to look at the melted engine and go form there.

Im not going to get into a slaggin match until i have seen what Bexleys will do to sort it.
At the moment, they have offered to exhange the unichip for labour about fitting another engine which they want me to supply!
I will not be updating this thread again cause i think that everyone deserves a change to rectify what they have done wrong!

Me going militant?.....naaaa
The car itself is actually very very nice. Sebring grey Motorsport cabs looks well tasty.
I would say why give away money for something you can do yourself. You know you can fit an engine over the period of say 1 month doing little bits on weekends and you have the space.
You have a spare 2.5 engine, fit that.
Why give up Ԛ£600 worth of MAF conversion just for fitting an engine which you can do anyway?
Fit the engine yourself, fit the head from the 2.7 whiich is heavily modified with a cam, the maf conversion is already on there, all you lose is the bottom end........

Irrational comment!
He over heated the engine and didnt check the guage and it fried itself.
Head gasket was not supplied by Bexleys and it failed.
Head gaskets can fail even when new. Lesson to be learnt here.......watch your temp al the time, if you dont this is what happens.
Engine could have been saved if the head gasket only blew but because it reached the highest possible reading on temp guage and stayed there for an unknown time the damn thing melted.
