Hi
flicking through my bible (haynes manual) last night and noticed that if available you should fill your cooling system with RAIN WATER! instead of tap water.
well ive got a water butt and its full of the stuff, but i thought i should ask you guys first, and does anyone know the reason why rain water is better?
and has anyone used this?
the only good thing about rain water in my eyes is its easier to get the arse end at 90 degree's on my favorite island lol
thanks
lee.

Rain water is 'soft'; it contains almost no dissolved minerals so it won't fur up your radiator.
You can even top your battery up with it - and yes, I have :D

rain water hasnt got all the "lay down and let us tax you to death" drugs injected into them that tap water has, to make us buy petrol at the rediculous price it is!!!

I have seen De-ionised water recomended before, for the same reason i would think (its softer, much less if any limescale)

Rain water would be cheaper, just put a coffee filter or 2 in a funnel and pour it through that

It's actually strongly reconmended you fill your battery with rain water or De-ionised water...... But not many people bother :)

Filling the coolant system with it would be a good idea too, less chance of the water corroding the engine too

I use a 6 Stage Reverse Osmosis System for water purification. Here's a link.

Water in wales is also 'soft' but still has all the floride and other chemnicals the water company add to it, the only chemicals in rain water are those that it picks up on its way down through the atmosphere.

Tap water is just rain water sold to us by the water supplier....after they have messed about with it.
