Hello - newbie here - I recently had a new radio fitted by a 'pro' ( hmm) and since he's finished the radio is great but the speedo and mpg meter have stopped working. When you start the engine the mpg meter flicks up and down and thats it. I got him back to check his work but he insists he hasn't done anything that would cause it. Is it a coincidience...or has he shorted something and blown a fuse?....and hich fuse might it be?

1986 325i convertible

Cheers all :-)

Check the wiring and plug going to the speed sensor in the diff. This wire can go brittle and give a bad or no connection. This would cause both the speedo and mpg gauge to stop working.

Forgot to say it could also be a fuse but i'm not sure which. Just have a look at them all it only takes a sec and replace any that are busted.

Thanks Spadge - will crawl underneath 2moz. Is the sensor easy to see without putting it on a ramp?

cheers

Look at the back end of the diff and you can't miss it mate.
Check the fuses 1st though.
