knocking from the rear

hi,when driving at slow speeds theres quite aloud knocking from the rear end,then after a bit it disappers.it feels like its coming from the diff,also when i put in reverse ther is sometimes a squeel.are these signs of the diff going or something else?thanks for the help.

The knocking might very well be your suspension top mounts, a common wear spot and pretty easy to change using E46 ones which are pretty much exactly the same. There's an article in the articles section.
