That certainly isn't going to help your car run!

It has been rubbing against something, get a new relay in there and hopefully all will be fine.

Make sure this box is securely fixed in position, and get a new cover for it too!

and making no effort to start.

i tried it for a while to get some fuel through but didnt
wanna do it for to long incase i flooded the engine.

is there any way of knowing what the problem
could be whether its the fuel pump or maybe
summat else.

please advise asap

to get the fuel pump out do i have to take the big round
metal thing out where all the pipes are going into and down
into the tank?

if so how do i get it out.....it obviously needs to be
wedged out but do i turn it clockwise or anti clockwise

the petrol is right up by the top so does anyone no of any way i can

Use two screwdrivers leverd against each other and turn it anti-clockwise after taking all the pipes off and marking them. The big round thing IS the pump.

When you changed the relay did you change like for like ?
They all look the same but have different layouts inside, check the numbers next to the terminals are in the same place as the original. (30,86 and so on)
I'd say check the wiring below it as well because if the relay has been rubbing on something then it's not sitting in the right place, that airflow meter in the pic looks loose as well ?
There is NO nucleus.

thats very helpful

so if the relay was fooked could that stop it starting?
just a little thing like that!

i didnt think that would stop getting the fuel through :?

im just trying to eliminate what it is and it puzzling me :x

just an idea but you sed you had just filled up with fuel, may be you got some bad fuel(i.e water in the forcourt tank) fuel will float on top of water and the pump picks up from the bottom. it's a long shot but easy to check if you have the sender out.

Have you tried powering the fuel pump directly to check it out?
If not, put that fuel sender back in and get back under the bonnet.
There are two fuel pipes that come up from the LH chassis rail and go to the top front of the engine. One goes to the fuel pressure regulator and the other goes straight into the black rectangular fuel rail that goes along all the injectors.
Take this second pipe off and put the end into a container.
Open up the fusebox, remove fuse 11, and with a short piece of wire, link together the outer socket of fuse 11 to the actual fuse wire in fuse 24.
This should make the fuel pump run, and pump fuel into your container.
Helps to have two people for this, and beware of sparks and petrol fumes.
If it doesn't run, then the fuel pump may well be the problem. If it does run, post again.

also looking at that pic of the fuel relay,it might have shorted out and blown the fuel pump relay fuse no'11 i think, if thats ok then check to see if you have battary voltage at fuel pump.

Fuel pump fuse is "down wind" of the relay, so won't be affected by any problems around the relay. Thats why I've suggested "jumping" the fuel pump at the fusebox instead of the more normal place of the pump relay base - Wiring may be damaged at the relay.

hello

right i got the fuel pump today and just fitted it.

the battery is charged and i got told that if you turn the ignition on
you should be able to hear the fuel pump humming. :?

its not making any noise at all....the only thing that is humming
with the ignition turned on is what i think is the idle control
valve (next to the throttle body the black thing). should this be doing
that? :?

before fitting the new pump it would turn over but not start

after fitting the new one it now turns over but it seems like
the battery is getting so drained its got no power because
its turning over but just enough to turn the fan half way each time. its although the battery is just about to go totally flat cos its ran out
of power but its fully charged.

what else can it be? :?

anyone please assist asap

I've just had another look at that picture above, and judging by the bottom radiator mount the rad is either loose or the car has had the engine changed :?

If you changed the engine what is it now and what was it before?

Ignore that, i just re-read the first page.

Do you own a haynes manual ?
If so then check all the relays against the wiring diagrams to make sure you have the right ones fitted and then let us know.
There is NO nucleus.

This sounds like what happened to my sport, went out one morning and wouldn't fire up. she would turn over fine and was getting plenty of petrol. To cut a long story short i tried everything, in the end found out it was the crankshaft sensor. Mine's an mtech 2 sport so the sensor was at the front of the engine but if your engine is the older type engine the sensor would be on the gearbox.
