What is your objection to Koni? After much deliberating they were the damper that seemed the most suitable and they're adjustable on the rebound. But they're expensive and I don't want to fork out if there's a better damper.Dave_M3 wrote:If not going coilovers though and just want a good shock and spring kit, I'd go for the B12 kit.
Not a fan of Konis and I tried the H&R cup kit too and I thought it was too soft before I went with the B8s and Eibachs.
I quite like how B6 and B8s work with Mtec springs too.

So would that be a possible cheaper option for an upgrade as it is said that the back axles are the same as the e30HairyScreech wrote:Its pretty much the direction auto manufacturers have gone over the last 20 years, look at the sizes of roll bar on the e30 - e36 compact - z3 for example.
Similar chassis and similar weights, yet bar sizes have gone from ~13mm rear ~24mm front to something like ~15.5mm rear and ~26mm front.
Doesn't sound a lot but as spring rate is related to cross sectional area rather than diameter its really an increase of 42% rear and 17.5% front a large difference in anti roll without having rock hard dampers.

Yeah, I was going to keep a little quiet about that, but having looked the bits all line up. Only worry would be around the diff mount.
A standard compact one is a little thicker than a stock e30 one and much more available for the 4 pot enthusiasts with no rear arb.
the z3 one is mostly the same size as a compact or a touring (obviously the car has a lower CoG so less roll to begin with and less weight at the rear) but there are a few models with a 15.5mm roll bar.
This one is the same size as a compact 323i bar.
Both should work but finding them and making sure you are getting the right bit online is not so easy. One to keep an eye out for in the yards when visiting really.
Z3 m bars would probably also work.
With regard to bushings the stock bushings for a compact or z3 should work. else run a 1mm undersize drill through a stock e30 bush at slow speed.
Now don't you bargain hounds go buying them all up, I still need to get some for the touring to stop her wobbling her jelly so much.
