Then, hopefully, I am very close to completion.
Will install the CPS as soon as possible and try again.
Really do appreciate all the help given btw, and Grrr, I do refer to the Wiki, but
asking questions here first gives me an idea of what to look for in it.

She cranks, she fires, she runs.
Will refit belts, pulleys and viscous tomorrow and use it until I'm back at work
on Wedensday.
Then I'll start to pull the engine out.

Took it for a shortish drive yesterday, 20 mins approx, too intent on
concentrating on any faults likely to appear to really appreciate any differences
in the change. Got close to home and noticed a rubbery burning smell.
Popped the bonnet and the Oxygen sensor was nicely welded to the exhaust manifold.
I'm guessing that I can cut this away from the loom, and safely wrap up
any wiring from it, yes
Will take it out for a longer drive today, now that all seems to working just fine.

If you don't intend to fit a lambda/oxygen sensor, then yes, you could cut the wires, although it may be better to leave them in place and just tuck them out of the way, should you or someone else wish to refit it at a later date...

Just cable tied it out of the way for now, but think it may be beyond any
future use. My own silly fault.
As to the management change itself, i;m very impressed. Feels so much smother
and responsive.
Highly recommend doing it.
