318is front hub, is it DIY ???

Evening all,
Had nightmare afternoon trying to replace front disce, but due to previous bodgery by persons unknown, the disc locating bolt has sheared off in the hub and cannot be drilled out.
Looks as though a new hub is called for. Is replacement a DIY job or will I need a press to get the hub / bearing unit onto the stub axle ??..happy days.....

It is DIY-able, but you'll need a torque wrench that goes up to 300Nm for the hub nut.

Having said that, the disc is held on by the wheel bolts. The only time you really need the little allen screw holding the disc is when you have the caliper off.

the hub comes as a complete assembly with the front wheel bearing. easy 30 minute job to replace and costs from about £26 a side from ECP although id recommend buying the dearer £40 option.

the torque wasnt worrying me, it was getting the old one off and not being able to get the new one on without a press, leaving me with one very immobile car, and one very cross wife !!
Had thought about doing without the screw and just usintg the wheel bolts, and have to say it is appealing !

doing without the little screw wont cause any harm or damage. i think its sole use is to locate the disc until the wheel is put on.

I ran without the little screws for years when I had my Orion - couldn't be ar53d to drill them out. IIRC, my Touring had one missing when I bought it too.
