My car sold on ebay, bloke came from Glasgow (4 hours away) to get it. Half an hour before he arrived the 'inspection' light came on and the rev counter started to go nuts as did the temp gauge. What the hells just happened apart from a very very unlucky bit of timing? He didnt want it becuase of this and now I'm pretty fed up.

The SI board is giving you trouble, that's all. Quite possibly leaky batteries on it.

You can replace duff batteries or swap in a known good board.

There's a stickied thread at the top of the Technical Help section showing how to to remove the instrument cluster.

Once it's out you remove the back from it and the SI board is in the front section, held in by a central white piece with a single phillips screw.
