318iS has a small case diff from the factory so it'll take 0.9litres.
If it's a normal open diff it'll need SAE 90w hypoid gear oil, if it's an LSD it needs a special oil available from your BMW dealer (you need to take a 1litre container with you) or from our oilman (www.opieoils.co.uk).
If you're unsure which type of diff you have, jack up one rear wheel, leave the gearbox in neutral and take the handbrake off, spin the jacked up wheel by hand. If it's easy to rotate you have an open diff, if theres substantial resistance to rotation you have an LSD.
Cheers,
Iain T

Always open the fill bung first on something like the Gearbox/diff
Yeah, you're right, but I'm a good couple of thousand miles from oilman (Portugal), and postage costs would makes things even.sam325is wrote:£50 for 2 liters is a rip off. £20 for 2 from oil man
Plus, I need it for yesterday. But thanks for the tip!

Next time I need, I'll quote him for sure!
