warning indicator identification needed please

anyone know what this warning lights means?

i cant look it up in my handbook because its stuck in my glove box that wont open lol

its the light on the right hand side of the two that are lit up

it seems to come on randomly



its not really idling as high as the rev counter shows as the rev counter goes a bit sticky sometimes

the 3rd one along is the brake fluid level indicator.

The 2nd one along (which is lit up but shouldn't be) is the brake pad wear sensor.

check the condition of the brake pads. and replace them if needed.

There's a pad wear indicator clipped to the brake pads on the front left wheel, and if the car has rear discs, another one for the rear right pads.
Check the pads and the wear indicator, check the connectors (fitted to the inside top of the brake dustshield) for corrosion, check that the wear indicator leads are dressed properly and not worn through on the inside of the wheel rims, and finally, if all these are in order, use the search function to look for "220 ohm resistor" and my username. This refers to a resistor inside the instrument cluster which develops dry joints, and causes the light to come on.
The pad sensors are simply a loop of wire embedded in a plastic block, and once they have switched the light on, must be renewed.

its good to know its nothing serious, canny be the brake pads because its just passed an mot and never got a advisory on them

MOT doesn't necessarily check brake pads. Only if they can be checked without removing the wheels.

If the tester cant see the pad thickness with the wheel on
he cant fail it

yep, can only fail them for being low if i can see them without taking anything off. get this for stupid tho....... bout a month ago i failed a polo that came in for there only being two wheel nuts in the n/s/f wheel........ this car had alloys on it. however, if it had steels and trims on i wouldnt have known as im not allowed to take wheel trims off. to check for the security of one of the most dangerous things that can happen to a car........ ie, the wheel falling off!!

Yep - my dear in laws turned up on boxing day in a car with a collapsed rear wheel bearing. Had been noisy for "a month or so".

Yes, you,ll find one or two every day on the hardshoulder of any motorway. Hence the "new" driving test actually including things like being able to check oil etc.

if i remember right theyd had a pair of front tyres at national tyres bout a week before. the other side was tight but the two nuts left in the n/s front you could have undone with a quarter drive ratchet!!

Hey any one know why these lights dont go off when i take the key out of the ignition. As i am sure that this is flattening my battery. I also tried the 7 and 19 wire trick to get rid of the oil service light and that dont work either. Cheers

The Amber and Red lights on the Dashboard.

I presume you mean the instrument cluster, which has about six red lights and three amber lights, but I'll further presume you mean the service indicator LEDS.
If you don't give accurate details of symptoms, I can't give accurate answers.
If it is the SI lamps that are on, red and yellow indicates the car is overdue for a service, and should be on all the time the ignition switch is on. If they are on when the ignition is off, then the SI board is probably faulty.
