IS THERE SOMETHING CALLED ' EXHAUST SOLENOID' ON E30 320I?

Hi there just wanted to know if there is something called a ' EXHAUST SOLENOID' on bmw e30 320i convertible cars??? and also can it affect the driving as in can it possibly make the car cut out or make it jerk during driving?
Final question how does the exhaust solenoid work if there is such a thing?

well ive read it on the google search when you type it in it says EXHAUST SOLENOID and i could have sworn i heard some one tell me that it exists.?? so it nto 4 real?
