What an engine!! it sounds amazing! and when the back end kicks out it puts such a smile on my face!!

But....i have a few probs and wondered if anyone could help me please??

Ive done around 200 miles in it today and it ran sweet as a nut until i got near my house, its started hesertating and really holding back. Then i took it out again and it ran fine.then hesertated again....It doesnt seem to be at any perticular time just when it feels like it lol.

Plugs, leads dizzy cap maybe? fuel filter? Am i right in thinking along those lines?

Another is the central locking...it unlocks but wont lock with the key.it will lock fine when i push the button down but otherwise.....
I read a post on this on this forum something to do with a relay in the drivers door....could that be it?

The heater controls dont light up either, are they supposed to? im thinking a few bulbs have blown inside anyway....

And the pass side leccy window switch doesnt light up,can u change the bulb in them or are they sealed units?

Sorry if these questions seem very dumb or simple but ive only owned a bmw for around 5 hours lol

Thanks in advance for any help

Hesitation: Try a replacement DME relay (white one under a plastic cover near the air filter)
Plugs, distributor cap and rotor are all possibilities, depending on their condition. Unlikely to be leads - they last for ever.
What does the rev counter do when it hesitates?
Central locking: More information needed. Does it lock/unlock on the passenger door or boot?
Heater controls: Lit by two small capless bulbs. One is directly underneath the analogue clock, and can be changed by pulling off the bezel around the clock, then unclipping and removing the clock forwards.
If you have an OBC instead of a clock, then it's much harder to do.
The second bulb is level with the bottom slider, and just to the bottom left of the fan switch. It pushes into the panel at an angle of 45 degrees with the back of it to the right.
You can get to it by removing the rear and centre consoles.
Electric window switches have two bulbs in them - one for each button. I don't think that they are intended to be changed, but I've successfully changed a few. The switches come apart easily.

Thanks on advice so far.Ill try plugs and leads today i think. When it hesertates the rev counter doesnt do anything...But when i take it out of gear and rev it it seems to rev fine...

Central locking.it will only lock if i lean through back pass door and push the button down on the drivers door.no other locks, boot pass door will lock the car.It unlocks fine from the drivers door.not from any others though.

ok just had a quick look at the wipers.took plastic cover off below the windscreen to expose the motor,it looks like theres play in the spindle (the bar coming from the motor which connects to the wipers)

When i turn the wiper stalk on the mortor just buzzes but doesnt actually move.....pretty sure a new motor is needed, what do u think??

It's an OBC control stalk - your car either has or had an On Board Computer, and the stalk is used to remotely cycle through functions on it.

Top one looks like part of the central locking loom, bottom one for the electric window motor.

Hi I was looking at the ebay pictures,it looks as if you have the OBC(on board computer).I noticed your drivers seat is a bit worn, get a passenger seat from a breakers and swap over seat belt fittings.Keep working on the the car and you will get it the way you want it in time.it's a lifetimes work

Hi

This is a link to an OBC zip file which explains the functions and setting of the unit:

http://www.dufferdesigns.com/obc.zip

I have also attached these other links as they might be useful if this is your first BMW.

The owners handbook is for a US spec. but most of the info. still applies to UK models and will give you a good basic understanding of the car.

Good luck

thanks for ur help guys.

Yeah i noticed the mirrors lol.ill get my mate to respray them both but 1st things 1st is to get it re-mot'd.so far it will need new front disc's (think there warped as it judders when braking) and pads, wipers sorting and new back box as its got a nice hole in it lol.

Theres no knocking front the front end so im assuming the steering/suspension is ok.And also has 4 very good tyres on it.Will get the obove done and go from there
