Are they all the same for e30s apart from MPH on the speedo?
Thanx

All clusters are the same, and all internal bits are intechangeable, regardless of manufactuer, except for some very early ones.
The coding plug in the lower right front of the cluster is matched to the model of car, and should be retained.
Obviously there are minor differences, like calibrated in km/hr and MPH, and different positions for the tacho red line.

I know you are the guru Brian and sorted me out when I was fed up with my central locking, but you're wrong.
I sold a cluster on ebay the otherday that i got out of a 316i and it had no hole to put a coding plug in, and before you say any thing I had a 318i one as well and it did have the code plug and hole in the front.
They all seem to be slightly different, red lines, max speeds... etc

Dude its possible that someone changed those clocks round, i know for a fact that Mr Mooooor is correct i have gone through about 10 sets of clocks every possible combination.Widge wrote:I would do and I don't maena any offence Brian so I hope none is taken, but this wasn't out of an early car. It was like 89 or somthing.
But I'll apologise any way if it make you feel better
Just keeping them for spares, as they should be worth something in 15-20 years time.

Really early ones had the coding plug in the back of the tacho guage. Usually VDO ones with tapering green bands on the tacho face. You can see the obsolete "Codier Stecker" (Code plug) moulding on the back of the later guages.
Certainly would never have been on a 316i from the factory.
