Fitted e36 evo Qrack last week/ have a problem tho! with every thing hooked up filled up and tightened, I started her up and when i touched the steerin wheel she would fully rotate her self in the direction you'd move it! I know this sounds stupid but it turns on it's own (NO RESISTANCE) so i removed PAS belt and then found a serious bit of play in steerin, about a tenth of the steerin wheel just didn't do any thing..... Any body have this problem with a rack on any e30

I'd check the universal joint first to make sure the rubber is not knakered and then check the whole joint is not compressed between the rack and colomn (take the bolts out and just knock it up and down the splines).
Thats assuming you've fitted a modified UJ and not wedged the original one back in there ?
If its not that then the rack is possibly buggered, maybe lost a tooth off the pinion gear/rack if its been in an accident.
