Hey guys
Got another issue on the project. Oil is leaking from the drain hole where the gearbox meets the adaptor plate/ engine? Is this common or could it be due to the fact ive just found out its got far too much oil in it?

It is usually the sump gasket, you can remove that small cover plate and check to see if there are any breaks in the seal. Thats where mine was leaking noticed after I'd changed the crankshaft seal when I thought that was my problem
.
Do a search for sump gasket and you will find the answers you need

As above. Ten faulty sump gaskets to one faulty oil seal.
Changing the sump gasket is not an easy job on a 6 pot though!

On the 325i the gearbox bolts are a pain to get to very tight in there and the box is heavy. To do the sump you don't need a hoist and you don't remove the subframe you just undo the 2 nuts for the PAS rack push it out the way undo all the bolts on the sump undo engine mounts and jack up the gearbox bell housing end reach in drop oil pump pick up and out she comes.

You don't need to remove the oil pick up (and I recommend you don't) if you undo the engine mounts and lift the engine as high as it will go.
Might have to slacken off the four subframe bolts as well to loser that a little.

Here's a link that might help, http://ee1394.com/bmw/docs/factory/repair/en/index1.htm
Why would you not recommend removing the oil pick up? That's what I did and as far as I'm aware its the BMW method. Does it cause problems?
