knocking on steering

Hi guys can anyone help me please i have just bought a e30 320ise 1990 on a h plate the problem i have is, i have a slight knocking noise from my steering when i turn the steering wheel it only happens when the wheels are central' if i turn the steering wheel to the left half way or to the right way, and then move the steering wheel it is fine no knocks' but when i put the wheels central and move the steering wheel either way it knocks any help would be great

Sounds to me like the coupling from the bulk head to the rack.

Open bonnet,stand on drivers side and look down,you will see the joint there.

Give a wiggle,and see if there is any play in it.

Easy to change and a cheap part too.

I have a 323i (from 09/1983) and I have also that slight knocking when I turn the steering wheel mainly when the car is stopped).

IÃ‚´ve opened the hood and realize its from the connection of bulk head to the steering rack

Where can I get the "bulk head"?

My steering is mecanical.

Also, can I change the part at home?

thanks mate but as the the last reply said is this an easy fix or best left to a garage' thanks for the help either way.

And too both of you,its a very easy job to do yourself,no special tools required,plenty of access around the joint,takes about 20 minutes in total,no need for a garage.
