Hi

I need to have the head on my 323i reconditioned.
It seems to be using oil and that has been put down to a need to reseat the valves etc.

1. Does anyone know approx what this should cost?

2. Anyone know of a place in Croydon that will be able to carry out the work?

3. Would there be a huge difference in cost if I flowed the head?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers :drive:

Don't bother fit a used 325 engine cheaper and way better. gas flowing is a waste of money too on an m20 head plenty cash little gain. PRICE FOR RECONING HEAD INCLUDING REMOVAL AND REFIT HEADSET ETC AROUND £600

Reseating the valves won't stop it using oil.

The valve stem oil seals may well be shot, usual symptoms are burning oil on startup.

If it's burning oil all the time or when given some revs it's usually down to worn piston rings.

Either way it'll cost £Â£Ã‚£ if you don't do it yourself.

The parts aren't too expensive but the labour will be.

Cheers,

Exhaust valve guides are the usual culprits, and are cheap to replace.
Look up FER (federation of engine rebuilders or reconditioners) and find a member local to you.
Get them to check out the head and do what is necessary. Usually replace exhaust valve guides, reface, reseat and lap in all valves, plus a light skim.
Including all gaskets, usually comes to about £300.

I remove and strip the head. It comes back to me with just the valves fitted.

I got one from bridge cylinder heads fully recon but not welded, for £395 warrented for a year. Spot on it has been so far. Id do that if i were you, if yours is shot! id say the worst bit on doing mine was getting to all the nuts and stuff but other than that quite straight forward. And prepare your block!
