got a bit of an annoying squeek coming from the rear of ma girls dads 1983 318i, changed the struts and top mounts already and it still does it, think i may have binned a bit rubber from the old top mounts that i need but dunno if i actually need it, anyone got a pic of how it should look? all i have is the strut with top mount an nothing between the 2, is that right? only makes the noise from drivers side so could actually be something else, any ideas?
cheers, jamie

Only struts on an E30 are at the front, so I presume you mean the dampers. The only rubber bit I can think of which you may have binned is the thin dome shaped rubber cover over the top. Can't see that this missing would cause a squeak.
Have you fitted the cupped washers the right way up? Away from the rubber.
Plenty of thinks that could squeak at the back. Squirt some washing up liquid around (spring pads, suspension bushes , etc) and see if it goes quiet.

Heh, i think i may know the problem.
Is there any play in the bootlid?
I had an annoying little squeak coming from the back of mine when i bought it and in the end all i needed to do was adjust the rubber bump stops on the bootlid to stop it from moving up and down.
Either that or just squirt a bit of wd on the bootlids hinges maybe...
It took me ages to figure out what it was, hope it helps!
