I have a 1989 E30 325i and want to fit a 2.5 turns lock to lock steering rack. It has been suggested that fitting a reconditioned manual rack and then fitting a 2.5 turns rack and pinion to the manual rack is the way to go.

Where can I get a 2.5 turns rack and pinion?

Why do you want 2.5???

I think that would be a bit extreme.

The E36 rack gives 3.2 or 3.4 turns lock to lock which I find perfect.

A competition rack from a LHD Talbot Sunbeam will fit, (upside down) just needs fabricated mounts, even retains E30 track rod ends.

2.25 or 2.6 turns, manual.

Don't suppose any E36 cars had manual racks that can be used to speed up the E30 steering did they?

Mine's manual at the moment and I don't really fancy cramming any more stuff into the engine bay

My father has something around 2.5 (maybe slightly less) on his Lancer Evolution VI and that is very nice. Not too extreme for the road and very good on the track.

I have an E36 rack with 3.4 turns (I think, fairly sure it's not 3.2) and it is a lot better than standard but it could still be quicker. Going to something like 2.5 might increase the turning circle though?

TAS motorsport.

I had a 2.5 turn quickrack in my Astra and it was great. No such thing as too quick on a rack I don't think!

If I keep this 320 I've got at the moment then a quicker rack is top of the agenda.
