i have jus fitted a 2.7 engine in my cab i have wired up all the electrics for the engine and also for the switchable auto gearbox

when i tried to start it, it jus kept ticking over but didnt start

i have checked if the fuel lines were the wrong way around
i tried to start the car with the fuel regulator pipe off fuel came out of the fuel regulator not the pipe that goes on it is this normal?

also checked if i havnt got the two connectors the wrong way one for the crank sensor cant remember what the other one was for again

i tried to check if i have a spark at the spark plugs i tested three of them
one sparked, two of the other spark plugs didnt spark il check the others tomorrow,

could this be caused by the distributor cap or rotar arm? as i did clean them a bit they had some black scores in the distributor cap

or could it be something else

Fuel coming out of the pressure reg is correct, it bleeds off excess pressure and dumps the fuel back into the tank.

The other connector next to the crank sensor plug is for the wire off the plug leads, get these the wrong way round and your going nowhere.

If you're only getting some of your plugs sparking then either the dizzy cap or plug leads are suspect.

Cheers,

cheers for the reply mate

i suspect its the dizzy cap and rotar as i sanded it down a bit where it had some deep scoring like black carbon marks

could this cause it?

i think the leads should be fine as they worked fine on the engine before i removed it from the other car

any way i can see te spark during the day as im jus about to start checking a few things in a bit

An engine that cranks and sparks at one plug only has a broken cambelt!

hi brian no it wasnt the cambelt

the lead that goes from the dizzy cap to the ignition coil was faulty replaced this and it fired up fine first time

brian how can a engine with broken cam belt stil make a spark if the belt is broken and it wont spim the rotar arm to make a spark?

The sensor by the toothed wheel on the crank pulley makes the spark, and that would still be turning. The cam pulley would not be turning, so all the sparks would be directed to whatever plug lead the rotor arm had happened to park itself by.

easy test is popping the cap off and cranking it over.

how are you testing for sparks by the way?

oh right i understand thanks for that

good thing is it wasnt the cam belt so everything is working fine now

hi mate i got it working in the end it was a faulty lead

i was testing the spark by putting a spark plug to each ignition lead turn by turn
