On a small machined flat area to the right of the passenger side engine mount.
It will be covered in gunk, so get a rag out with some turps....!!
Pete don't care about colour, He would shag a rainbow if he could find the end of it....

Just viewable, though it helps to wire brush it and use a torch.

Bumping an ancient thread here, but I've been out trying to find the engine number on my project lump.
I've been trying to find the 25 6E / 25 6K identification number.
In the area circled in the pic above all I have is this symbol:

Towards the top of the block there are two numbers - this large one:

And this smaller one which is on a plate screwed onto the block:

Any ideas? Are there other places it could be?

On my 323 block the number is on a faced part of the block more or less below the distributor on the nearside of the engine. That shows the engine number which is basically the VIN of the car it was in originally. So mine matches; I suspect yours won't as you say it is a 323 block inserted into a 320 car.

Cheers for the reply though - in the area you're talking about my engine just has the number 84 cast into it...
